Plastic Welding Standards
The American Welding Society (AWS) (Miami, FL) now offers a newly
published standard on plastic welding, AWS G1.1M/G1.1:2006, "Guide to
Ultrasonic Assembly of Thermoplastics." This American National
Standards Institute (ANSI)approved standard details the ultrasonic
equipment and processes used in fabricating thermoplastic parts.
This
edition was developed in response to industry demand for a standard on
ultrasonic welding that could guide management, engineers, foremen, and
welders. It defines the ultrasonic welding process, the materials that
can be welded, and the required equipment. Part and joint designs are
included, along with welding process optimization, testing, and
ultrasonic techniques of staking, swaging, insertion, forming,
degating, cutting, trimming, and spot welding.
The price is $68 for nonmembers, or $51 for AWS members. AWS
publications may be purchased in the United States and Canada by
