How are Your Joints? - Weld Seal Technology: The Future in Steel Banding
While most people will think that the very process of welding and the
high pressures and heat applied to steel to achieve the weld in the
first place are more than enough to prevent any malfunctions in the
future, the fact is that many times the weld is not enough to provide
durability to a project, particularly when it comes to joints.
The problem with jointed materials and welds is that by definition,
they are in constant use. The joints are not only always in motion, but
are likely the areas that will be most called upon to bear the pressure
and weight that goes along with the job. This means that even the
closest welds will be tested over time and are likely to come apart
even minutely at some point.
The use of seal welds, however, will add an incredible amount of
strength to the original welding put in place during the manufacture of
the piece, particularly around the jointed areas. Not only does this
technology apply to the world of welding, but it has also been adapted
so that the packaging of products is much more secure.
Particularly, the idea of the seal weld is being applied within certain
packaging machinery in the steel banding industry. Previously, the weak
points in banding were the same as those in any welded project; the
result, of course, could be weakened areas which when they finally came
apart under pressure might result in damage to loads of valuable goods.
Today, however, the use of ultra sonic technology means that steel
banding is stronger and more reliable than ever before. Ultra sonic
welding creates a seal between two layers of a material, not just
within the material itself, and results in a bond that is much stronger
than the usual weld.
For packaging, that means goods solidly bonded and guaranteed to make
it to their destination in the same way, no matter the pressure that is
applied at various stress spots. In the end, this technology will mean
far less money paid in terms of goods damaged in shipping.
