Hi-this is my 1st post.
I got one of those flux wire mig welders for Christmas. It is just a hobby man's type welder. Uses .030 wire and is good for light steel up to about .125 inch.
I have practiced with it a few times but really am not very good.
I seem to be burning too hot as it is melting holes right thru the material. (.060 steel.
I have it on the low setting and the wire is turned to feed slow. The wire does not seem to be melting fast enough and gets longer as I go.
So I was thinking I might be moving the torch too slow.
Any suggestions on where to set the amperage and wire feed and how fast to move the torch for me to practice?
thanks

If you are burning too hot you need to turn the power down.

I suggest you try welding some thicker material to get practice with. Using gasless mig wire in 0.030 or 0.8mm should handle the 0.125" about 3mm really well.

Something is not right here. How many amps is the machine rated at?

Here are some photos of some welds done with a gasless mig welder here: Gasless mig welder

The thickness of the metal welded in those photos are pretty close the the thickness you are welding. I think those orange beams would have been about 2mm thick.
